The old house at Aquebogue

  • Any frequent travelers to Long Island’s wine county have probably  seen this house before, a boarded-up Victorian on the south side of Route 25 in the village of Aquebogue.

In fact, Aquebogue – which I expect to see get more fixed up with each year I live on Long Island – is home to several abandoned farmhouses, something I’ve always found strange since it is right on the edge of the gorgeous vineyards and farms of the North Fork.

Last summer, traveling out East I pulled over to snap a few photos of my favorite of the derelict houses. Unfortunately, either the dust from the road (or perhaps the restless spirits of the former occupants) caused a few orbs in the shots. However, the photos aren’t so bad that I can’t share them.

Also, seeing that house makes me want to write a story about a group squatting in an old, abandoned house – but not a ghost story. I’m still brainstorming on what that group is. They can be anybody from a family who lost their home in the recession to a band of psychic clowns.

    Enjoy the photos.
