So here it is, my first batch of taken with my new Nikon D5000 DSLR digital camera. I’m still learning how to use it, specifically how to tweak ISO, shutter speed and aperture to make photos better. It’s still over my head, but luckily I’ve been visiting Digital Photography School for tips, a great website for novice photographers such as myself.
For this first group I decide to take more photographs of the snowy winter scenery on my property. I experimented with landscapes from afar in addition to a few up-close macro shots. of the snow-laden branches and shrived red berries hanging on the vines.
There’s a very clean feeling I get from the photos this camera takes, they’re not as grainy as the ones from my point-and-shoot Canon. But as for a deeper analysis, I need to learn more before I can make one.
In the meantime, enjoy these photos. There are some great ones of the small barn on my property.

Excellent photos! I love taking nature photos like that, myself. How do you like using a DSLR? I love the convenience of my digital camera, but I always had a knack for catching the perfect facial expression or pose, and since my digital takes a couple seconds to actual take the photo, I’m not able to choose that exact shot now. Thus, the final shot is more luck than anything anymore. Boo! Hiss! LOL Does the DSLR take the shot instantly?
I’m sure you’re having a blast. What’s more fun than a new gadget? Even a year later, I’m still having fun with mine. The convenience of uploading photos to my computer rather than waiting for them to get developed is too cool for words. And no buying film ;-P

Compared to the old point-and-shoot it’s amazing. I was having the same problem catching the scenes I wanted, especially pics of my toddler. The shutter speed on the DSLR is great, and the high ISO means I can shoot in many low-light situations.
So, yes, I love it. Though I still keep my little Canon handy for fun impromptu projects, like my TV Kaleidoscope set.
