Here’s the truth, with work and family, I’ve struggled with finding the time to keep this website up to date, but I’ve got a stack of ideas and projects I’d like to get on this site as soon as I can. It’s a challenge that I doubt I’m alone in … finding time for those labors of love.

So here are a few things I’ve come up with to try to get back on track. Because, from all vantage points, having a stale website is worse than having none at all. It gives the appearance of laziness even when that just isn’t the case.

- Don’t over-think it. That’s not to say don’t think at all, but when you have the idea to write a post, put up a photo gallery, record some music, etc., don’t agonize over the fine details. Get to work, give it an initial polish. If you think you intend to revise it later, it’s OK to note that in the post. Most personal sites are works in progress anyway.

- Get your old stuff together. Creative types have a lot of stuff, first drafts, rough ideas, etc. If the goal of your site is to air your creative process, get it up.

- Think short. Not everything has to be a novel.

- Make a list of post ideas and projects you want to tackle and get live on your site. It’s easier to sit down and get posting if you know what you plan to put up ahead of time. It’s the head scratching that can kill any momentum.

- Make time. We’ve all found ourselves wasting time with TV, your smartphone or games only to look back later and think what you could have done if you had decided not to waste that time at the outset.

- Take pride. It’s your website, after all. And in the Google age it’s often how people get to know you, especially if you make your Facebook page private or for friends only.

There was a time (a month, actually) where I posted on this blog every day. Sure, it took signing up with National Blog Posting Month to get me to do it, but I like to believe my life was also more cooperative then.

Now, that just isn’t so, and as a frost keeps threatening to make me finally fold up my short-sleeved shirts for the season, I find I still have a stack of summer photos I had intended to have posted by now. So, it’s time to get caught up.

I was initially waiting to post a lot of these with companion poems I am writing, but since my free time is so much less these days since I have an infant (something you shouldn’t consider a complaint from me – fatherhood is bliss), I’m going to post them. The poems will come, but I need to move on. I’ve already started taking fall photos.

I’ll start with a rather large gallery of assorted flowers taken in the summer. Some are wild, some are ornamental, some are vivid, and some are delicately muted – the panoply of summer in the Northeast.

I hope you enjoy them.
