So far, most of the videos I’ve created have been for Long Island Business News, though in the near future I’d like to start creating some artistic movies.
Here’s a list of some of my favorites, though you can see all of the ones I produced for LIBN at the paper’s Vimeo channel.
This is Pilgrim State
This was by far LIBN’s most popular video, a photo montage of the decaying Pilgrim State Mental Hospital in Brentwood. I actually composed the music behind this one, a demented piano track that I felt elevated the mood of the photography. LIBN photographer Bob Giglione took the photos while LIBN staff writer Ambrose Clancy wrote and read the narration for the movie.
A few weeks later we went on another tour of Pilgrim State, this time with Jerry Wolkoff, the man who wants to develop the property into a mixed-use wonderland.
Steve Levy’s not Funny
Here’s an example of a press conference I filmed. Pro-immigrant activists gathered at the Suffolk County seat to lambaste the county executive, Steve Levy, for making a joke about deporting an illegal alien.
Long Island Farmers Market
The was actually the first video I produced for LIBN. I visited a local farmers market with our reporter and photographed the people shopping and enjoying the day. I later strung them together with another original piano piece of mine playing in the background.
Jazz on the Vine – 2009
This past winter, I visited Long Island’s wine country every weekend for a few months to film the Winterfest jazz festival that was being held in various vineyards. I recorded 24 videos in total, and you can see all of them at Vimeo. Here’s the Donny McCaslin Group playing at Bedell Cellars.
Driving the LIE
And, lastly, here’s something I put together on my own, a quick film of the Long Island expressway set to a Sigur Ros track that perfectly captures the mood I was going for.
