Writing

Writing for me is the quintessential work in progress. While early on I knew music was an art form that I wanted to pursue and study, it wasn’t until I was actually in music school that I discovered a love of writing. What started as a passion for scrawling sophomoric poems about New York City eventually turned into something more, which I further developed studying creative writing at SUNY New Paltz. Eventually I made my career as a journalist, and I’ve written hundreds of articles and blog posts professionally. But the writings I list below are my creative projects. It’s not a list of all the prose or poetry I’ve written, but rather a collection of those pieces that I think are either strong or honest examples of me putting my all into a project, even if I think I’ve come a long way since.

So, please, enjoy and share any comments you may have.

Poetry

I’ve written many poems, but not all are worth broadcasting since many times I use poetry simply to explore more abstract ways of thinking about. However, I am working on expanding this collection.

Short Fiction

These stories represent my work in the shorter genre, ranging from flash fiction to longer stories. I have a collection of stores that I am working on that I have not included here.

Forgive Me Father

The Harvard Sentences

These short fiction pieces (flash fiction) often between 300 and 800 words are based on Harvard Sentences. Telecommunication companies use these sentences to test the clarity of their networks by speaking them over a cellular, landline or IP voice connection. I am writing a series that uses these as prompts.

The hogs were fed chopped corn and garbage
Help the woman get back to her feet
Large size in stockings is hard to sell
Rice is often served in round bowls
The boy was there when the sun rose
Kick the ball straight and follow through
A pot of tea helps to pass the evening
The small pup gnawed a hole in the sock

Writing to Music

This is a newer project of mine, a collection of stream-of-consciousness writings done while listening to a certain piece of music. Look for more here soon.

Novels

Too date I’ve written two novels, though I am continuously editing both of them these days.

The Host

First, I had this name for a novel well before Twilight writer Stephanie Meyer published a novel with the same, so I don’t plan on changing it. However, it will be some time before I ty to publish this again. This was my first long work, which I began in college, wrote it three times, and at last decided that I would move on to new projects instead of spending so much time on this. That said, I love this work. It’s something I worked very hard on and has some really great potential. I polish it up from time to time and may self publish it.

Imaginary Bebop

My second novel I wrote in 2006 while participating in National Novel Writing Month. It’s a shorter novel, but I have a lot of faith in it. I am still editing this work and may try to get it published after I finish a draft that I am satisfied with.
